Lock N' Load

Cocking, Loading and Reload Sounds

The mechanical clicks around the shooting: slides racked back, guns and shotguns cocked, rounds loaded, shells checked, actions closed, and weapons handled and packed away. They suit action films, trailers and game reload animations. For the shots, see gun sound effects.

Category information

Is the WAV worth it for reloads?

Reload sounds are brief, so even the WAV is a light download, and there's little reason to ship anything else in a film or game. The MP3 is there for auditioning.

How to sync gun reload sounds

A reload has two sync points: the moment the slide or pump goes back, and the moment it slams forward. Line up both, not just the start.
Match the action to the weapon on screen: shotgun reloads for pump actions, cocking slides for semi-automatics. Gun handling has more.
Keep loading and cocking on separate clips, so each can be retimed to a game's reload animation or cut short when a reload is interrupted.
Layer each reload with gear and clothing movement, and show the ejected shells with bullet cases.
